Houston DWI and Criminal Defense Attorney

I am a Houston criminal defense attorney whose practice emphasizes DWI and other serious felony and misdemeanor criminal matters. I have been licensed to practice law in Texas since 2010, and I was admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas in 2011.

I represent clients in Harris, Fort Bend, Galveston, Montgomery, Waller, Brazoria and Chambers Counties. I also speak Spanish, and my firm provides Spanish-language intake.

A criminal allegation can affect a person’s freedom, professional license, driver’s license, career, family, finances, and reputation. My approach is built around careful preparation, close examination of the evidence, clear communication, and an individualized strategy for each client.

DWI and Forensic-Evidence Training

DWI cases may involve much more than an officer’s opinion that someone appeared intoxicated. The evidence can include driving observations, roadside exercises, body-camera video, breath testing, blood testing, medications, laboratory methods, gas or liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and allegations involving drugs or other substances.

To strengthen my ability to understand and evaluate that evidence, I completed 160 hours of hands-on training at Axion Analytical Labs & Training Institute in Chicago. My coursework included:

  • Forensic Analysis for Legal Professionals
  • Forensic Analysis of Solid Drugs
  • Forensic Gas Chromatography Analysis of DUIDrug

I also earned the ACS-CHAL Forensic Lawyer-Scientist designation through the American Chemical Society’s Chemistry and the Law Division, which is the highest form of scientific recognition available for lawyers.

In order to challenge officer’s subjective claims they observed signs of intoxication from a suspected DWI/DUI driver, I completed the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)/International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Program, just like the police officers that administer the roadside tests in DWI cases.  Additionally, I completed a comprehensive course on Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), as well as the Drug Evaluation and Classification Program (DECP/DRE).

This education does not determine the outcome of a case. It helps me ask informed questions about how evidence was collected, preserved, tested, interpreted, and presented to challenge the government’s scientific experts.

Education and Early Legal Experience 

I was born and raised in Texas. I graduated from The University of Texas at Austin’s McCombs School of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration in 2005.

After college, I worked in the Intellectual Property Division at Fulbright & Jaworski, where I assisted with patent-prosecution matters. I later attended South Texas College of Law Houston and earned my Juris Doctor in 2010.

During law school, I I traveled as an advocate with Mock Trial teams for one of the top ranked schools in the nation for trial advocacy.  I also served as a Law Clerk to Justice Terry Jennings at the First Court of Appeals and at the criminal defense law firm of Stradley, Chernoff & Alford.  After obtaining my law license, the firm hired me as their Associate Attorney where I worked for the next several years fighting for clients and trying cases before founding my own law firm in 2012.

Criminal Defense Experience

While working as an Associate Attorney, I served on the defense team representing Dr. Conrad Murray in the involuntary-manslaughter case arising from the death of Michael Jackson. That experience reinforced the importance of preparation, discretion, and professionalism when a criminal matter receives intense public and media attention.

My practice includes first-offense DWI, high-alcohol-concentration allegations, blood- and breath-test cases, drug-related DWI, test refusals and Administrative License Revocation matters, repeat DWI, felony DWI, and cases involving commercial drivers or professional consequences.

I also represent clients in in a wide range of felony and misdemeanor cases, including possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substances (drugs), assault, family violence, prostitution, arson, and theft charges. Every case depends on its own evidence, legal issues, prior history, personal circumstances, and available options. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to criminal defense.

Background Outside the Courtroom

Before entering law school, I started training in Muay Thai, Krav Maga, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. That training reinforced qualities that remain important in my legal practice: preparation, discipline, persistence, adaptability, disposition to fight, and composure under pressure.

I am married and have two daughters. Outside the office, I enjoy cooking, coaching my daughters’ softball teams, and playing guitar, bass, and piano.
